PRETEND

PRETEND

Pretend uses an array of multiple frames and complex graphics to tell the story of a troubled fami- ly living in upstate New York. The father is an unemployed poet and the mother supports the entire family with her work in a shop. The two young daughters take refuge in a world of fiction. Brimming with imagination, Sophie invents stories for her younger sister Ellie. One evening, the girls overhear a fight between their parents, during which it seems like they’ve decided to split up. Concocting an audacious plan to prevent her father from leaving the following day, Sophie hides her sister in the woods for the whole night. Pretend was shot in 14 days using only MiniDV cameras.
