RIZA

RIZA

When his truck breaks down, Riza cannot work and risks losing his only means of transport. While trying to scrape together the money to fix it, he takes a room in a squalid hotel inhabited by other troubled souls: an old man who spends his days watching TV and waiting for his son’s return; a young Kurd hoping to get a factory job; a gay sailor waiting to leave for America; an Afghani and his daughter-in-law who plan to emigrate to Italy illegally. Riza opens the “Trilogy of Conscience of Death”.

“Dostoyevsky demonstrated how terrible the stories of socalled ordinary people can be. My film follows an or- dinary truck driver, one whose fate and suffering mirrors that of many others in his country. His life is monot- onous: eating, watching TV, waiting. Each morning brings another uneventful day without hope”.
