RJABINOVYJ VAL’S

RJABINOVYJ VAL'S

At the end of WWII, the Soviet government brought soldiers to the villages of the northwestern province of Vologda to teach the remaining inhabitants, mostly the elderly and young women, to defuse the mines left in the surrounding fields. The women, however, initially don’t the mission seri- ously and think only about fighting over the soldiers’ attentions – until the first accidents happen. Young widow Polina falls in love with one of the officers and fears that her son could die from one of the mines. “A peculiar mise-en-scene of war without a visible enemy.” (Alena Semenova)
