Twelve-year-old Helena Lee lives with her father in L.A.’s Venice Beach. She loves observing the people who flock to the beach season after season, as her head fills with life’s big questions about the past and the fu- ture. Visions of her mother, who died a few years earlier, often take an ethereal form, as if in a waking dream. As summer draws to an end, Helena’s spiritual journey takes an unexpected turn. Musician and music producer Jim Akin (Laguna Beach, California) made his feature directorial debut in 2011 with After the Triumph of Your Birth. He is married to singer-songwriter Maria McKee, who produced, scored and acted in The Ocean of Helena Lee (in the poetic role of Helena’s mother). Akin based his screen- play for Helena Lee on autobiographical events, but preferred to make the main character female. Moriah Blonna makes her film debut in the role of Helena.
