Akounak Tedalat Taha Tazoughai

Akounak Tedalat Taha Tazoughai

A post-colonial, Sahel-set remake set of Prince’s Purple Rain, and the first film made in the language of the Tuareg, who have no word for the color purple. Rain the Color of Blue With a Little Red in It tells the uni- versal story of a musician (played by guitarist Mdou Moctar) fighting against all odds to achieve his dreams. The film drew inspiration from Italian Neo-realism, Poverty Row movies and the experimental works of Jean Rouch.

Christopher Kirkley (Portland, Oregon) is a musicologist, artist, curator and occasionally, a DJ. His project Sahel Sounds uses non-traditional ethnographic methods to explore the culture and music of West Africa. Rain the Color of Blue With a Little Red in It, co-written with young Tuareg collaborators and made specifically for a Tuareg audience, is his first Kickstarter-financed film.
