Il soldatino di stagno is based on Hans Christian Andersen’s fairy tale The Steadfast Tin Soldier, in which we discover that toys are not – as we are used to thinking – mere inanimate objects but, when the lights are turned off and the children go to sleep, they come to life and all sorts of things happen! The heroes of this story are the one-legged tin soldier and the paper ballerina. Their eyes speak to each other all the time.
“Il soldatino di stagno was born out of my passion for the world of silhouettes and an unforgettable voyage to Iceland. My desire was to create an animated set design, in which past, present, and future co-exist and complete each other. Thus, a timeless ‘product’ is forged. The audience is immersed in a dreamlike dimension, in which they can ‘distract’ themselves from reality for a few minutes. At the same time, they find out that they don’t need too many artifices, because magic is already there.”
