Kyllachy
INSIGNIFICANT SPECKS OF DUST IN A TAPESTRY OF STARS
UK, 2024, 8’
The moon, the lens of a projector, the eye of a crocodile, a cigarette burn on celluloid, parachutes seen from the sky and space rockets seen from the ground. Burrowing into the core of the earth, reappearing in the depths of space. A circular destination that rotates in two places at once: the infamous "zama zama" mines in Africa – where illegal miners dig at the risk of their lives – and the barely explored vastness of the cosmos, where astronauts venture in search of fresh resources. The true cost of progress is complex.
Kyllachy is an experimental film “projekt" immersed in found footage and repurposing material from the cutting room floor. Formed in the Highlands of Scotland in 2022 with the aims of collective freedom and an archival spirit. Their practice is still evolving, laying adolescent foundations and attempting to learn from each subsequent mistake, slated experiment and successful failures.
