Gabraz Sanna
CARTAS DO ABSURDO / LETTERS FROM ABSURD
Brasil 2025, 44’
On one hand, with its key statement (“There were no whites before, now they’re everywhere. They’re filming everything”) almost in the middle of the film, Letters from Absurd deals with the devastating effects of the genocide of Brazil’s indigenous peoples over the last five centuries, using recently found letters written by native Brazilians in the 17th century to describe the end of the world. On the other hand, Gabraz Sanna offers a formal tour de force with illustrious precedents in his nearly 25-minute long take, which traverses nature and water and ends on a coast, a harbour, ‘civilization.’
