¿CÓMO SUTURAR LA TIERRA?
Ecuador 2024, 17'
Wil Paucar Calle captures his landscapes mostly in nocturnal shots. A voiceover describes the places. Photographs from the family album are projected onto peeling walls, clothes hanging on the line, the leaves of dust-covered shrubs, and dirt roads cracked by the sun. The accompanying music is provided by a contemporary execution by Macca Says of a Jorge Araujo Chiriboga popular song, but also by the music score of Jonas Mekas’ Out-Takes from The Life of A Happy Man. The film is not ‘only’ about going back on his mother’s escape from the 1980’s war with Peru, but a lucidly cinematic and poetic attempt to reach back into a world that no longer exists..
A graduate in film from the Ecuador University of the Arts, Wil Paucar Calle (Quito, 2000) is interested in analogue and experimental processes in image-making. He received the Ernesto Albán Award for best short-term audiovisual work for his short film El Viento trae canciones del Trópico, 2023.
