PARIGI È PER SEMPRE

The idea for the Special Event on Italian Cinema at the Pesaro Film Festival was conceived in 1987, when the Organising Committee, presided over by Lino Micciché and comprising Bruno Torri (vice president), Adriano Aprà, Mino Argentieri, Ernesto G. Laura, Marco Müller, and Sandro Zambetti, decided to launch this sidebar event. At a later stage, this was also to receive its own government funding. At its debut in 1987, the Special Event paid homage to one of the major masters of cinema and a founding figure of the Mostra itself: Roberto Rossellini (who is featured in the Fascist War Film section with two titles). During the infancy of the Festival, in the period referred to by Miccichè as the “golden years” (1965 through 1967), Rossellini would be present at the Pesaro event, taking part in conferences or sharing significant written contributions.
This year’s programme for The Magic Screen - Cinema at the Beach has been selected by Steve Della Casa, the Conservator of the Cineteca Nazionale, with which this section is organised.
