AGGREGATE STATES OF MATTERS

Peru/Germany 2019 , 21’

Presented as a film installation at the exhibition ‘Time Forward!' at V-A-C Zattere, Venice, Aggregate States of Matters is a conceptual work where the written word combines with the enthralling visual motifs butwith an added interest, i.e., the concern for global climate change. Shot in 35mm,the film portraysthe Peruvian Andes and in particular a melting glacier, but also the local communities of the Quechuan population that have interplayed with these morphological elements for centuries. Weather is not the only topic: according to the film’s title, that refers to the metamorphosis of matter, time is also a point at issue. “Throughout my work, I question how we occupy space by investigating crisis through an unusual treatment of time and language. Time is conceived as an accumulation, an archive, rather than a linear progression” (Rosa Barba).
